unobserved time

This piece is a playful trick on perspective and on my relationship with time. It measures presence.

It started with a question: when do we notice time? I can think of many moments when I’m impatient for something to end and the hands on a clock just don’t seem to move fast enough. I can also think of moments, like afternoons spent with my son, when time vanishes and I look for any reason to stay one more minute. Either way, by checking the clock to capture right now, I may have already missed it.

So I wondered: what if the clock simply disappeared whenever I looked at it? Checking it no longer gives me access to time. Instead, I am gently returned to the moment I am already in.
